The Importance of Separation of Powers and Checks and Balances
published by Seth Connell
Without the separation of powers, our lives
would change drastically. The separation of powers is where "each
branch of government keeps the other in check to ensure that no one branch
becomes more powerful than another."(Connell 1). This system
ensures that citizens will not be treated poorly and be abused by their
government. This is called tyranny, where a cruel and oppressive government
is in control. “History shows that when one group with the same
ideology is in power, tyranny and mass slaughter soon follow.” (Connell 1).
Due to the separation of powers, such things cannot occur since the power is
balanced. This way, many innocent lives are saved. “Under the
American system, there is a legislature, and executive branch, and Supreme
Court.” (Connell 1). Thanks to these three branches, our country is a
more peaceful country than it would’ve been.
The Separation of Powers- Why is it Necessary?
published by Karl Renner
In the separation of powers,
there are three branches. “The
first of the three powers has the task of passing laws and supervising their
implementation.”(Renner 1). This branch consists of the
Congress, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. They ensure our laws
are logical and not too reprimanding of our rights. “The executive branch has the task of implementing laws.”(Renner 1). This branch consists of the president, the vice president, and
the cabinet. The executive branch have the capability to pass all of the laws
that have been created or made. “Judges
administer justice, viz. they decide disputes independently and impartially. It
is their task to ensure that laws are complied with.”(Renner 1). This
branch consists of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. The judicial
branch evaluates the laws, and examines them carefully.
Why Do We Need Separation of Powers
published by Why Guides
These are the most critical points of separation of powers. "It’s most critical purpose is to prevent misuse of power."(Why Guides 1). Without this, we would be abused mercilessly. If it weren't for the Separation of Powers, we would be scarred by the brutal treatment of the government. The system of checks and balances is also critical.(Why Guides 1). Without checks and balances, one branch would end up becoming more powerful than the other. Then, the other branches would become absolutely powerless and tyranny would occur. Another more practical reason is to make it easier to run the nation. If it was all up to the President, the tasks can be overwhelming. (Why Guides 1). If the work of the government was equally distributed, the overall outcome or product would be ten times better than it would be with it not equally distributed.
